MANGROVE COAST FLY FISHERS/SARASOTA CCA INAUGURAL PHOTO ALL-RELEASE
"FALL FLY FISHING CHALLENGE"

Held Saturday, October 29, 2005
Thank you to all who attended the 2005 tournament.

The Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers (MCFF) and the Sarasota Chapter of CCA Florida held a fly-fishing only tournament out of the Ken Thompson Park boat ramp on City Island. This was a catch-photo-release tournament similar to the successful Sarasota CCA Photo All-Release Challenge held every year in April.

The tournament benefited the MCFF Scholarship Fund and CCA. An entry fee of $50 per angler included registration, film and a BBQ following the tournament where awards were presented. Anglers were provided the use of a Polaroid camera and measuring board. Prizes were awarded for redfish, snook, trout and an overall Grand Champion. The awards BBQ also featured a raffle.

Steve Gibson (an honorary MCFF member) was co-chair of the event with Capt. Rick Grassett.

For more information about the Fall Fly Fishing Challenge please contact Capt. Rick Grassett at (941) 923-7799 or snookfin@aol.com and Steve Gibson at (941) 315-0617.

THE 10th ANNUAL SARASOTA CCA PHOTO ALL-RELEASE CHALLENGE!
WAS HELD ON APRIL 23, 2005

The 10th Annual Sarasota CCA Photo All-Release Challenge was held April 23, 2005 at the Sarasota Cay Club. A total of 149 anglers took part in the event which was sponsored by the Silverman Family. Tournament volunteers also held a silent auction and raffle. Altogether, more than $9,000 was raised for CCA Florida’s conservation initiatives along with the signing up of 114 new members and 4 youth members.

The Grand Slam winner this year was Keith Pratt, and the Fly Division was won by Frank Lanzisera. Youth anglers (right) included Matthew Berman, Robert Dickens, Josh Miller, Ian Widner, and Billy Young.

The unique format fishing tournament features spin and fly anglers competing against each other with identical boxes of lures or flies. All fish (snook, trout and redfish) are photographed and released to fight another day. Proceeds from the annual tournament benefit CCA Florida.
