NAPLES CHAPTER DONATES EQUIPMENT TO FWC

The Naples Chapter decided to support the law enforcement efforts of their local Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers by dedicating the proceeds from one of the live auction items at their 2005 annual banquet. Because it was going to help the FWC, the bidding was lively and eventually topped out at more than $3,000. The donation was used to purchase three spotting scopes, three digital camcorders, three tripods and a DVD recorder for the collection of evidence for prosecution.

Standing before the donated equipment are Officer John Humphreys of the FWC and CCA Florida Vice President Wright Taylor.

NAPLES CHAPTER MONTHLY FISHING TOURNAMENT SERIES

The whole purpose of the monthly fishing tournament series is to grow our chapter's awareness and to give us something fun to do here locally. It seems to be accomplishing its mission. I told someone the other day that we had over 400 members here in Naples. Well let me correct that. Counting today's new members we now have 562 active members in the Naples Chapter. All I can say is, WOW! Let's keep it rolling and let's keep having good turnouts at the tournaments. Having a strong membership is very important with all the different issues that CCA fights every year. So, a big THANK YOU goes out to all of you. -- Wright Taylor, Chapter President, November 6, 2006

The next tournament will be on February 4th at the Calusa Yacht Club and Marina, so tell your friends!
Put the date on your calendar and we'll see you there.

January 2007 Tournament
This past Sunday was yet another great success for the Monthly Fishing Tournament. We had 20 teams enter and 7 new CCA members. The weather was nice although the wind blew a little. The fishing was on in some spots and off in others. We had two fish come in that were 26.5 inches, and several others that were close. Four teams brought two fish in. We had quite a few other teams bring in singles but to no avail. Thanks to everyone that came out and we look forward to seeing you again next month.

It does appear that we have considerable interest in having a Fly Fishing Tournament. Let me know if you would be interested.
1st place: 12.44 lbs of reds went to The Sadler Team, Ken and Ryan, 2nd place: 11.61 lbs of reds went to Scott Klieber and Michael Prescott, 3rd place: 9.05 lbs of reds went to John Campbell and Terry Metzger, 4th place: 8.27 lbs. of reds went to the Pruitt Team, Troy and Derek. The Mystery Fish was a snapper, and the Crowder Team won with a whopper 10.5 inches, at 65 lbs.

December 2006 Tournament
Thanks for coming out this weekend. We had a great turnout. We signed up 3 new members, we just keep growing! Seems we have crossed the 15 boats per tournament line and haven't been under that since June, great going everyone. The weather was great and the fishing was, well, not great but pretty good. I just knew everyone was going to catch fish. The scales opened and people started to bring their bags and it wasn't the whoppers we've been seeing over the last few months. We had one fish that went 26.25 inches; the other 10 ranged from 19 to 24.75 inches, and six of those were in the 24-inch range. The snook fishing on the other hand was really good. The Mystery Fish was snook and we had several anglers bring some to the scales and other anglers talking about the ones they caught that were too big. Sherry from Sunshine Ace Hardware came out and brought some goodies to the weigh-in; go by the stores and tell them thanks for supporting us. All and all we had a great tournament with a great turnout. Let's keep it up.
1st place: 9.78 lbs of reds went to Wright Taylor and Mike Mueller, 2nd place: 9.44 lbs of reds went to Al Keller and Rodger Drouin, 3rd place: 9.22 lbs of reds went to Craig Hendricks and Jeff Brown, 4th place: 6.98 lbs of reds went to John Campbell and Terry Metzger. The Mystery Fish was snook and the winning team was Matt McLean and Kevin Cardillo with a 33.5" 10.91 lb. whopper.

November 2006 Tournament
Another great turnout. Thanks for coming out and fighting the wind; it was definitely tough out there. We had 15 boats with 9 new adult members and one New Tide member. This has to be well over 100 new members since we started this tournament. The whole purpose of this tournament was to grow our chapter's awareness and to give us something fun to do here locally.

October 2006 Tournament
Wow!!! What a great turnout, 21 boats! Thanks to everyone who came out and fished. The weather was great and the fishing was great also. Let's keep up the good work and let's make the next tournament ever bigger.

September Labor Day Weekend Tournament
We had another great turnout, 16 boats, 4 new members, 1 associate member and 2 New Tide members. We paid out 4 places plus the mystery fish. What a day! The fishing was really good and the storm that most everyone got caught in was unbelievable. It seemed to last forever, I kept looking at my watch thinking if we're going to make it to the weigh in, we're going to have to run in this mess; luckily it cleared up a little.
1st place went to Terry Metzger and Rob Will with 11.16 lbs., 2nd place went to Chris Turner and Jason Russell with 10.85 lbs., 3rd place went to Donnie Kish and Chris Emerine with 8.46 lbs., 4th place went to Wright Taylor and Jim Kornegay with 8.22 lbs. The Mystery Fish, which was trout, went to Chris Turner and Jason Russell. They had a whopper of a fish, a 1.43-pounder.

August 2006 Tournament
Our tournament was another great success even though the weather was a little less than favorable. The wind blew about 15 mph but not much rain. We had 16 boats that added four new adult memberships and three New Tide members. Most everyone caught fish. Six teams had 2 redfish to weigh in. This month the mystery fish was the biggest redfish, which was a little different twist. Thank you all for coming out.
1st place: Andrew Bostick and his son Kyle with 9.57 lbs., 2nd place: Mike Friday, Matt McLean and Kevin Cardillo with 9.20 lbs., 3rd place: Chris Turner and Tom Simmons with 7.02 lbs., 4th place: Bill Pfaff and Allen Randolph with 6.70 lbs., Mystery Fish: the largest redfish, Matt McLean with a 6.16-pounder

July 2006 Tournament
We had 16 boats this month and half the field brought fish to the weigh table, that's not too bad. The mystery fish was a pompano, again, and 5 boats each brought one to the scales, that's great!
1st place redfish was the Metzger Team, Terry and Kyle; they brought in 2 reds for a total of 8.97 lbs., 2nd place redfish was Capt. Al Keller and Capt. Bill Faulkner; they brought in 2 reds for a total of 8.91 lbs., 3rd place redfish was Troy Pruitt and Jeff Ball; they brought in 2 reds for a total of 8.80 lbs., 4th place redfish was Wright Taylor and Mike Mueller; they brought in 2 reds for a total of 7.91 lbs., Mystery Fish went to the Travis Team, Mark and Jason with a 2.57 lb'er.

June 2006 Tournament
On June 4th we had a great turnout and a great tournament. We had 15 boats and 12 of them brought fish to the weigh table; it was pretty busy. The mystery fish was a pompano. We had six new members and one new Tide member.

Thanks to everyone that participated, we seem to be doing really well with new members and repeat anglers. If every angler that has fished at least one tournament came and fished the next one, we would have probably 30-35 boats. Let’s make that our goal. If you’ve fished the tournament before, try to make the next one. It will be July 2nd. Come on down and we’ll see you there.
1st place with 10.05 lbs of reds went to the Metzger Team, Kyle and Terry, 2nd place with 9.47 lbs of reds was Ron Crowder and Tom and Debbie Eggleston, 3rd place with 8.77 lbs of reds went to the Klein Team, Dan and his daughter Danielle, 4th place with 8.30 lbs of reds went to Gary and Stephanie Parsons and Wayne Meland, The Mystery Fish went to Kip and Sean Frank and Rich Gamret with a 2.09 lb pompano.

May 2006 Tournament
We had a nice turnout on Sunday; we had 14 boats and 1 new member. Quite a few people caught fish, but the fishing was definitely off from earlier in the week. Most people came in with only one redfish, only the Metzger Team came in with 2 redfish. The winds were up and the water clarity was down in the back, maybe this was the reason the fishing was off.
1st place: Allen Team, Chip, Andy, and Ryan. They weighed in one fish at 7.1 pounds, 2nd place: Metzger Team, Terry & Kyle. They weighed in two fish at 6.47pounds, 3rd place: Eggleston Team, Tom & Debbie. They weighed in one fish at 5.83pounds, Mystery fish - trout: Troy Pruitt and Jeff Ball with a 2.59-pound Gator.

March 2006 Tournament
We had a great turn out, 17 boats fished the tournament and we had 12 new members sign up to join CCA. Seems as if more people should have gone snapper fishing…

1st place: Gary Parsons and his teammates Stephanie Carlson and Wayne Meland with 11.92 lbs. of reds. 2nd place: Chris Turner and Tom Simmons with 9.02 lbs. Of reds. 3rd place: Steve Loyd and his son Kyle and nephew Ty Loyd with 8.58 lbs. Of reds. 4th place: Wright Taylor and Mike Mueller with 5.99 lbs. Of reds. Mystery fish - snapper, Scott Gundeck and Bob Ross won it with a whopper, 10 ½ in, .63 lb mangrove snapper.

February 2006 Tournament
We had 11 boats and 8 new members. On the left - the 1st place winners "with 2 huge reds, one was 25.75 inches and weighted 6.98 lbs. and the other was 26 inches and weighed 6.20 lbs., WOW!" On the right - 2nd place.
1st place: Captain Ron Crowder (center) with Debbie and Tom Eggleston, 2nd place: Terry and Kyle Metzger, 3rd place: Wright Taylor and Mike Mueller, Mystery fish - trout: Troy Pruitt and Jason Russel

January 2006 Tournament
We had 7 boats with 15 anglers and every boat caught fish even though temperatures were in the 40's at 7 a.m. On the left - everyone who came out to fish. On the right - the 1st place winners.
1st place: Al Keller, John Campbell and Bill Faulkner, 2nd place: Matt McLean and Kevin McLean, Mystery fish - trout: Team McLean
