It is very early in this process, but it is important to note that this initial report makes specific mention of the role of hunters and anglers in America’s successful wildlife conservation model. It also makes a preliminary distinction between “conservation” and “protection/preservation” which is a critical point in any discussion of this kind. Although this report is a very brief overview of the goals of this Administration for the initiative, there is reason for anglers and hunters to be cautiously optimistic at this stage as the sporting community seems positioned to be a part of the process, rather than a target. CCA is part of a large coalition of hunting and angling groups being coordinated by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation called HuntFish 30×30 that will be evaluating this report and formulating next steps in the coming weeks.
