Florida Keys Natl Marine Sanctuary Impact Plan

Today, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) released their draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) that will regulate the marine waters of the Florida Keys for years to come. The proposed Sanctuary regulations will be open for public comment for the next five months. You can find the proposed information online.

Please go online and comment or attend one of the public hearing meetings.

Five informational sessions will be held for the public to learn more about the proposals and provide input. Written comments will be accepted at the sessions in Key West, Marathon, and Tavernier, while the sessions in the Miami area (Coral Gables) and Fort Myers will include additional opportunities for spoken public comments. Sessions start at 6 p.m.

Members of the public may provide comments on the proposals during the Sanctuary Advisory Council meetings on October 15 and December 10 in the Keys. Meetings start at 9 a.m. These meetings will also be streamed live on the Sanctuary Advisory Council’s YouTube channel. Meetings will take place at the Isla Bella Beach Resort, 1 Knights Key Boulevard, Marathon, FL 33050.
